On March 21, South Brunswick High School’s SB Helping Hands Club held their campaign event. This event was to spread awareness on distracted driving. This club is for students interested in volunteering and doing acts of service for other students. Typically, their events consist of various activities, different crafts and contests. There were plenty of meetings to help prepare for the event and to sell tickets. At this particular event, students watched the movie Turbo to learn about the safety precautions while driving.
Club members earned club credit for going and could bring a plus-one for an extra club point. Plus-ones and anyone in attendance earned 2 NHS hours. Tickets were sold for $12 dollars.
Students in attendance played Bingo that went along with the movie.
Freshman Kelly Hon said, “The bingo was fun because it made me pay attention to the movie and it was fun to play.”
Pizza and Capri Suns were provided with the purchase of a ticket. An extra slice of pizza was $2 and an extra Capri Sun was $1. Brownies and chips were also offered for $1 each.
For the duration of the movie, students continued playing bingo to win prizes. There were different ways students could win in bingo and different prizes offered. The biggest prize a student could win was a basket filled with different snacks and goodies. The way they could win that prize was by a “blackout” which was covering their whole board.
Freshman Ira Shetty, who came as a plus-one said, “The movie was really intriguing and the prizes were cool.”
Their next planned event is an Earth Day park clean up on April 5. Students can volunteer to clean up a park in South Brunswick. There will be tree painting, free t-shirts included as well as a catered lunch for all volunteers.
